For a Dutch Shepherd, I like the 3.2mm size. You adjust the length by adding or removing prongs from the collar. Hang onto the ones you remove so that you will have replacements later.

Mine seems to be too big for a small and medium is sometimes too wide since he's very slim. I've tried going to Herm Sprenger website but it's hard to decipher which size is the best fit. My current prong collar, unfortunately, has a habit of unhooking itself no matter how many times I adjust it.
